How To Play “I, Me, Mine” on Guitar

“I Me Mine” is a song by the Beatles, written and sung by George Harrison and released on their 1970 album Let It Be. The song originated from the January 1969 Get Back/Let It Be sessions, and its lyrics serve as a comment from Harrison on the fractious situation within the band. Will post equivalent tutorial on Richard Riff’s website!

The Beatles rehearsed the song at Twickenham Film Studios that same month and formally recorded it a year later. It was the last new track recorded by the band before their split in April 1970.

The last song to be recorded by The Beatles, I Me Mine was written by George Harrison about revelations regarding the ego discovered through LSD use.

This uses a 3/4 time signature like a waltz, rather than the standard 4/4. With a rather mournful sound, Harrison called it a “heavy waltz.”

Interesting fact here is that, The Beatles recorded this without John Lennon. The first version The Beatles recorded ran just 1:34, and had only one chorus. The album’s producer, Phil Specter, copied and pasted parts of that recording to make the song 2:25.

When the album was re-released in 2003 as Let It Be… Naked, the songs were remixed to eliminate most of Phil Spector’s lush production. His edit to make this longer was one of the few things he did that was left alone.

I, Me Mine – Lyrics

All through the day
I me mine, I me mine, I me mine
All through the night
I me mine, I me mine, I me mine
Now they’re frightened of leaving it
Everyone’s weaving it
Coming on strong all the time
All through the day
I me mine

I me me mine
I me me mine
I me me mine
I me me mine

All I can hear
I me mine, I me mine, I me mine
Even those tears
I me mine, I me mine, I me mine
No-one’s frightened of playing it
Everyone’s saying it
Flowing more freely than wine
All through the day
I me mine

I me me mine
I me me mine
I me me mine
I me me mine

All I can hear
I me mine, I me mine, I me mine
Even those tears
I me mine, I me mine, I me mine
No-one’s frightened of playing it
Everyone’s saying it
Flowing more freely than wine
All through your life
I me mine
