“She Came In Through the Bathroom Window” — inspired by a real break-in from a fan? Oh yes.
This quirky McCartney track on Abbey Road was born from a strange real-life event — when a Beatles fan actually climbed into Paul’s house… through the bathroom window!
In 1968, the “Apple Scruffs” — a group of devoted fans — would often hang around Paul’s St. John’s Wood home. One day, a girl named Diane Ashley snuck in through a bathroom window and took some personal items — including lyrics!
Paul didn’t seem too bothered. He turned the bizarre incident into a song — a mix of surreal humor and soulful groove.
It was recorded as part of the iconic Abbey Road medley, with Paul on lead vocals, George on lead guitar, and Ringo laying down a solid drum track.
John Lennon doesn’t appear on the final track — he was recovering from a car accident during the medley recordings.
The line “Sunday’s on the phone to Monday” adds to the surrealism — possibly referencing the chaos and weirdness of Beatle life.
